Long hours of waiting around as scores of people worked to set the scene and enter actor to deliver lines technically permanent and perfect observing set down marks.

Very mechanical. Completely lacking in spontaneity or any live feedback really. And of course that was the essence of theatre work. All well and good but as any fool could tell you there simply is no money in theatre.
